my system is so much better than i ever dreamed when i started this journey about 30 years ago.never did i think i would be possible to achieve the sound, i currently hear, in my listening room.My amps are superb...the speakers are amazing...the network player sounds better than the SACD player that preceeded it.I have 2 Silent Source 'Music Reference' power cords. My new Silversmith 'Fidelium' speaker cables are truly amazing. The addition of the Uptown Audio 'EtheREGEN has significantly improved the sound. The addition of the Salon ethernet cable has improved the sonics.I changed my previous modem/router setup to a single Actiontec product.Have just added 2 REL 212 SE subwoofers. The addition has significantly improved the soundstage and midrange....as well as the bass.I have recently replaced the Symposium Platforms that were under my speakers..Tidal and RELs, with AV RoomServive EVP HDR isolation devices that have significantly improved the sound.Upgrading my Lumin to X1 level was a great idea.....Have replaced the Psvane WE 300B tubes with Psvane ACME 300B tubes. My 845s are Psvane WEs.Have also added a LessLoss Entropic C-MARC power cord to my Lumin X1.Have also added a LessLoss C-MARC RCA interconnect..Stay tuned..
Agear...sorry i have not responded before now...the Lumin is superb. better then the PWD MKII and does dsd also. great company response with questions also. i bought it from frank dickens at silent source audio. great guy with a very good deal on the player.i am using both the Kinsky app and the Lumin app through my iPad as my controller..can't make up my mind on which one to stay with ..both are very good.i love the simplicity of the player. all aspects of the sound are improved over the PWD..in my system.the dsd downloads ..through Channel Classics are in dff which will not play on the Lumin app but do play on the Kinsky app which is why i may just stay with it..i do not think you will be disappointed with it...
System edited: with the recent deletion of my Meitner cdsa-se player and the deletion of the PS Audio P-10 regenerator i am currently all computer based. i added a Lumin Network Music Player , which is superb and does dsd downloads, and the system is now superb and simple.the best of both worlds.
Do you still have your echole signature cables, or have you sold them? How do you compare the sound with the HF speaker cables and interconnects? Thanks
Calloway, Your enthusiasm for the HFC CT-1 got me curious about them.I thought that anyone who has a Chalice Audio amplifier must have superb sound(and would be difficult to impress with other products) in their home.If adding these cables impressed you to this degree it must be out of the ordinary. I tried one and it is! Regards,
with my addition of Rick Shultz's cables my system has been improved again.to say that his cables have improved my enjoyment would be a huge understatement.they are simply superb.
System edited: have sold my Meitner player. the system is all computer based currently...at least for a while.will be adding High Fidelity CT-1E speaker cables soon.the music keeps getting incrementally better..
Charles1dad...thanks for the comment..the Grail's are very special indeed...my system, currently, is all computer based since selling my Meitner..at some point in time i will find either a used esoteric K-03 or a used dCS Puccini...i just had my preamp upgraded and it is still breaking in but gets better every day..dave
Agear..i live in Danville,va which is about 2 hrs north of charlotte.take 85 north and merge on 29 N and follow that to Danville..i would love to have you over..a sat afternoon or sunday would be best for me..email me at humphrey(at)gamewood(dot)net..the amps ARE made in lynchburg actually. pres edmunds and tom willmann are the designers..tom being the main designer of the electrical aspects..he is brilliant..dave
I imagine the Chalice sounds outstanding based on the design, part quality and implementation.Last week at CES and THE SHOW I heard an amplifier of similar design, PSET with 845 tubes and cost no object approach. It was the Absolare Passion amplifier and its system`s sound was the best in the entire show.I wish Chalice could have been there, I`d love to hear it just based on its appearance alone.Calloway, you must be in musical heaven. Regards,
FYI, I did fart around with high powered SETs (Kora Stereo) on my previous speakers (91 dB, ohm) and loved them. They were just a pain to bias and not safe around toddlers. If I had the cash (really if the wife allowed me), I would take a long look at Chalice. Total sweetness....
I will take you up on that. Where are you located exactly? I grew in Charlottesville and went to school there. My wife and I live in Charlotte now but still visit the folks from time to time (pop is a retired prof).
It is my understanding that your amps are actually made in Virginia? Very kool.
Agear...thanks for the kind comments on the amps..they are very special indeed.they sound even better then they look. if you are ever in the virginia neighborhood you are welcome to come by and take a listen..
Calloway, I have had multiple seasoned philes and manufacturers alike provide that counsel to me. I am not certain of the physics involved, but it makes some intuitive sense with potential disruption of the soundstage and the reflective/absorptive capacities of glass. Its academic since a formal A/B test would be ridiculous and you are happy.
Your amps look spectacular. I have worked extensively with Starsound on room and equipment grounding schemes, and Robert commented that the Chalice guys knew what they were doing simply by looking at the way the tube sockets were designed. Most tube manufacturers DO NOT attend to that level of detail.
At one time I had a 55" tv between my speakers and speakers significantly out in the room. Once I removed the tv, I was surprised how it NEGATIVELY effected the sound.
agear...the entertainment center does not affect the sound as i have the Tidal speakers significantly out in the room at the sides of the center.the amps are possibly the best SET amps made...they are incredible....as for room treatments i have bass traps in the corners and panels in the ceiling corners..i also have core furniture diffusers on the front walls and movable absorber panels..
Calloway, great system. Those amps look enticing. Room treatments? I know people go back and forth about room issues, but what do you think about having that big, honking piece of furniture between your speakers?
System edited: With the new additions of the HiDiamond HD3 Powercords and the High Fidelity CT-1 and CT-1E interconnects and the Elrod Statement Gold pc the system continues to improve...especially in the depth of the soundstage and the detail and bass.
Hi Calloway, Nice system! I have CT-1 IC`s and Elrod Gold PC. Great cords! I am interested in having a quick chat to you about a couple of your cables if that is OK with you? Here is my email [email protected]
