Description

Well, after buying and selling several pieces over the last few years -mostly CDP's and interconnects-, I am finally settling down for awhile. Well, at least another year or so when I begin looking for new speakers for a larger house. The Wavelength and Stereovox IC's are very new. They're working great so far and I expect to keep them for the long run. The Macbook has changed the way we listen to music. It's incredible to have your whole collection available with a little white remote. Everything works seamlessly and sounds incredible. We've purchased a lot new music recently because it's so fun to rip and listen. This is by far the best sounding system we've had.

Music tastes run the gamut: lots of classical, some rock, folk, acoustical guitar, and of course lots of kid CD's, especially bedtime/lullaby discs for a little person who joined us a few years ago. Some of these discs really sound great and are so relaxing! Anyway, I'm now an authority on children's music, particularly bedtime tunes...recommendations forthcoming.

Components Toggle details

    • Apple Mac Mini
1 TB HD connected via FW800 to new Mac Mini
    • Wavelength Audio Crimson -- balanced version
USB DAC with volume control running balanced. The sound is incredible!
    • Paradigm Active Reference 40's
Each speaker contains 2 amps to (1) to power tweeter, (2) to power midrange/woofer. These speakers were my very first hi-end purchase some years ago now. They sound great and the active design (at least to me) makes sense. I may never go to conventional speakers.
    • Stereovox BAL-600
4 meter runs from DAC to speakers. The best interconnects I have ever heard!
    • Yamamoto Sound Craft MGB-1
4 of these footers used under W/L DAC provide excellent vibration control, reduce harshness and etchiness.
    • Fusion Audio Enchanter PC's
    PC's for active speakers
    • Fusion Audio Impulse PC
    For WA USB DAC.
    • Stillpoints Stillpoints + Mini Risers
    Got'em my laptop
    • Audience aR6-T
The teflon cap conditioner...dead quiet backgrounds, increased sound stage and dimensionality
    • Audience AR1p
Single outlet conditioner used with each active speaker. More to come on how they sound.

USAV91--- Yes, I love the PA40's! Is Paradigm going to be using the Signature drivers for your upgrade? I've been chomping at the bit to upgrade these speakers, but I haven't come across any other active speakers that are decently priced and might offer performance advantages. I'm also looking at purchasing some small monoblocks to sit beside new speakers, but ouch! Stuff is expensive!....so I soldier on (pun intended) with my Paradigms.

My Dad is an US A vet who got out after 11 years active. He stayed in the reserves to get the pension.

System edited: I swapped out the Macbook for a new Mac Mini with external HD. And, fortunately, it sounds a lot better! I upgraded because the MM offers a more permanent audio server solution. I was always grabbing my laptop off the rack to use and would have to unhook pc and USB cable. Plus, the battery would die frequently causing the system to shut down in the middle of songs.

Shadorne--thanks! Ah, another active fan...your system is very, very cool. I'll
be sure to post there as well. The Audience conditioners I've added recently are
about broken in and really adding to our enjoyment of the system! This is
cheesy, well, maybe not for Audiogon, but I find myself oftentimes planning to
spend an hour or so listening but end up powering down 3-4 hours later, oh
well. I'll get some pics up soon.

System edited: I've just added some new power conditioning pieces to quell noise generated by our home's crappy electrical system, among other things. I've never been a believer in power conditioning, but I'm simply amazed at the significant changes to the sound brought on by the aR6-T. Plus, my active speakers are great, but the amps are not blessed with excellent power supplies. So, I'm expecting the aR1p's to help quite a bit...stay tuned.
