Description

Cost me only US$2200; the amplifier and the cd-player were not new, one was open box and the other used for an year. The speakers are new.

Should I buy a more expensive pair of speakers? Are the 602's enough for my system?

Your system resembles a history of my own. Have had the 602's with Kimber 8TC and an Arcam FMJ P35 with my Arcam avr 200 pre/pro, and arcam cd72. Was quite a nice synergy. I now own the Consance and it far out performs the arcam cdp. While the 602's are certainly not a bad performer you can certainly find smoother operators out there in a marginal pricepoint upgrade. Personally I have been through a few speakers since owning those. I bought the Dynaudio Contour 1.3mkII and quite liked them but they really needed ALOT of power to do things nicely and the Arcam struggled a bit. Sold those, moved onto Quad 12L's and was quite happy for awhile. I then added an Odyssey Audio Stratos power amp, which defintitely out performs the P35 in dynamics, smoothness, extension, power. But as soon as I heard a pair of Elac 203.2 bookshelf speakers I HAD to have them. Try sitting down to a pair of these amazing little bookshelf speakers. Simply incredible with as good if not better bass extension as the B&W's but with solid detail and clarity in it's entire spectrum. Smooth but incredibly detailed. And far superior soundstage to the B&W's, which I always found boxy, restrained, and a bit of boominess in the bottom end, with a harsh high end when pushed. www.6sonsaudio.ca in Winnepeg Canada sells both the Consonace and Elac line. I believe you could pick up a pair of these new for around 1200 USD or less.

Cost really doesn't matter if the sound you are hearing pleases you. If the 602s make yo happy, why think about changing. Spend the money on music rather than equipment if your current system makes you happy.
