Description

went throgh quite a re-education / research process in selecting each piece... had a reasonable budget, but wanted a kick butt HT system that was also very musical.... which was a much tougher challenge than I imagined. I think I hit a home run... very happy with the sound and functionality for what I had to spend....

Bought sold and traded my way up to / through the very best of the audio world of the 1970s thru the mid 90s. Had to sell it off around 2000 and made due with junk (too me) until last year. Wife said to take some of the dollars I saved doing 60% of a large room addition myself and buy a decent system... what a great wife! lol Very hard to be self regulating on the $$$ when you are starting from a blank slate.

    • Clearaudio Performance SE
The Performance SE (Second Edition) advances our original Performance design with a superior plinth construction. While the original Performance used Starion (an artificial stone), the SE moves to an aluminium/high-density fibreboard sandwich to produce a platform with greater stability In addition, its features include: •A 40mm-thick, silently revolving acrylic platter. The characteristics of acrylic are close to vinyl, so resonances inside the record find an easy path into the platter, where they are damped away. •A separate AC synchronous motor unit in a solid housing with three silicone feet, which drives the platter through a stepped pulley and circular cross-sectioned belt. Separation of the motor from the main turntable is designed to further reduce vibrational energy. •Integrated patented Clearaudio ceramic magnetic bearing (CMB). While most turntable bearings use a metal spindle spinning in a housing with a ball-bearing separating the two, Clearaudio's bearing is aligned with a non-magnetic ceramic spindle and effectively floated on air by a magnetic field. This reduces friction, wear and noise by avoiding any point of load. The Performance SE is typically sold as a package, complete with Clearaudio's Satisfy Carbon Directwire tonearm and Maestro Wood MM cartridge, offering a complete solution to the music lover looking for superior sound and refined design, combined with ease of set-up and use.

    • Kef Q900
There are three full-size new Q floorstanders to choose from, each sharing the same audiophile-grade technology in the same basic configuration: a new generation Uni-Q MF/HF array paired with a long-throw bass driver of equal size, and two matching ABRs. The difference is the size of the drivers: 130mm (5.25in.) diameter in the Q500, 165mm (6.5in.) in the intermediate Q700 and a class- beating 200mm (8in.) in the flagship of the range, the magisterial Q900. As front speakers in a home theatre system, these effortlessly assertive performers are capable of flooding the room with an intricate and intensely physical soundstage. As a viewer, you notice the striking clarity of the vocals and fluidly articulate midrange response. With massive bass extension heightening the drama and flawless 3-D imaging that faithfully tracks the action on screen, the illusion of being there is phenomenal. All you have to do is decide which model is best for you, bearing in mind the size of the space and your personal listening preferences. Technology with soul The brilliantly innovative engineering of the new Q Series surrounds you with a spacious sonic image of astonishing purity. A groundbreaking new Uni-Q array that conjures up a fluent, spacious and incredibly realistic 3D sound stage you can enjoy wherever you sit. A spectacular new high performance LF driver that delivers deeper, cleaner and more accurate bass. And a ‘total design’ approach, with obsessive attention to detail and the pleasures of ownership. These are the qualities that set the new Q Series apart. All new Uni-Q array Sweet, spacious and true, wherever you sit. Thanks to the latest computer modeling techniques, years of painstaking development and a dash of design genius, the new iteration of the Uni-Q concept packs a formidable complement of design innovations. Based on the state-of-the-art HF driver developed for Concept Blade, the new Q boasts a much larger (25mm/1 in. dome) tweeter for increased sensitivity and distortion-free power handling. It plays as loud as it plays true. The vented tweeter design allows upper registers to be reproduced with startling clarity and smoothes the transition to midrange frequencies. The dome assembly is cleverly braced, pushing the first breakup beyond the audible range so that the sound you hear is flawlessly accurate. And to make sure everyone in the room enjoys the benefit, KEF’s distinctive ‘tangerine’ waveguide over the dome maximizes Uni-Q’s exceptionally wide dispersion characteristics. At lower frequencies, the superlight new aluminum cone of the LF/MF drive unit delivers noticeably faster, cleaner response. This is enhanced by KEF’s unique Z-flex surround, which allows the extreme excursions needed to deliver a truly visceral thump while also maintaining a seamlessly smooth surface to disperse the high frequencies from the tweeter. The ensemble is a masterpiece of modern acoustic engineering. Vocals suddenly seem much more immediate – more open and natural. Surrounded by sound of such clarity, you start hearing things you never did before. Nuances in the way an instrument’s played. The sound of a distant cricket in an outside scene. A breath, even. And best of all, you don’t have to be in a little ‘sweet spot’ to experience it. With KEF Uni-Q, you can sit where you want and not miss a thing. All you hear is what the artist intended. Advanced bass technologies Deeper, tighter and more accurate bass. Featuring rigid new aluminum cone technology just like the Uni-Q array, the new Q Series advanced bass driver is a tour de force in its own right. A die-cast aluminum chassis rigidly locates the high efficiency vented magnet assembly to prevent unwanted resonance, and the large (50mm) voice coil ensures impressive power handling. Its musicality is impeccable: seductively tuneful and well controlled, and on the floorstanding models, complemented by dedicated front-firing auxiliary bass radiators (ABRs). Deep, fast and powerful, this outstanding bass response is enhanced by new enclosures with massive internal bracing to eliminate resonance – and importantly, over 30% more volume than their predecessors. For movie effects, this noticeably enhances the realism of the sound when combined with the newly assertive midrange. Total system design A holistic approach with no compromises. The performance envelope of these sensational new drive units is so generous that the signal needs minimal intermediation – simple first order crossovers are all that’s required, as you can tell from the transparency of the sound and the inaudibly fluent transitions. You can see KEF’s legendary attention to detail everywhere. Gold plated bi-wire terminals for the clearest possible signal transmission, for example. Or the spikes on the floorstanders – they’re adjustable from the top instead of the bottom to make leveling easier. Thoughtful touches.
    • Kef Q600C
As the centerpiece of your home theater speaker setup, the center channel is the crucial component when it comes to clear vocals and narrative. Let's face it, nothing is more annoying than straining to hear the plot of a movie. With KEF's Q600c center channel speaker, you won't miss a beat thanks to the large 6.5
    • Kef Q800ds
The beauty of KEF's Q800ds dipole speaker is that it's created specifically for home theater system setups. The dipole (which merely means the speaker fires out of phase) creates the realistic sound imaging that gives you that fully immersed feeling. Not only does it throw a little realism your way, the dipole feature and a groovy trapezoid design that makes it more flexible when it comes to placement. Take it from KEF: be there or be square.

    • Hsu Research VTF-15H
The VTF-15H features new integrated flare triangular ports (patent pending), variable Q control, and hybrid operation (including both sealed and ported modes). Between the Q control, operating modes, and EQ choices, this is the most flexible subwoofer we have offered to date, catering to virtually any audiophile’s preferences. The 15-inch woofer is a very low Q (0.25), low inductance woofer resulting in very high efficiency and high headroom. Bass is extremely tight, especially when you set the Q control to a low Q. The use of the new integrated flare triangular port allows us to get the biggest possible port for each subwoofer. We are no longer limited by diameter of standard size port tubes. The triangular ports tuck away nicely in the corners of the panel, allowing a compact panel size to accommodate a large woofer and large ports and yet provide a visually striking look
