Description

I have recently completed an audio video system after taking an 8 year hiatus from audio. I use to own a Music Hall MMF 7.1 turntable, Balanced Audio Technology VK-3i preamp and VK-60 amp. I used Harmonic Technology speaker and interconnect cables.

I decided to abandon analog sources and go digital. I feel I have done well so far in my pursuit of satisfying sound and video experiences.

I upgraded the Tube electronics with the following NOS tubes (except for KT-120s):

Preamp:

Tung Sol oval plate” 6SN7GT

Sylvania military brown base WGT/A

Amplifier:

Tung Sol KT-120 Power Tubes

CBS 6SN7s

Telefunken “smooth plate” 12AX7

Being a digital system, I have a Hard Drive enclosure system that allows me to use eSATA or USB 2.0 interfaces as needed and serves as my digital music and video Server.

I also can stream data to this system from a remote NAS which works very well. All of this is Netgear stuff. I stream the data using the 5GHz band instead of the normal 2.4GHz.

The center of my system is the Oppo BDP-95, which is a new Universal player that should be the most talked about player of this year. Very versatile player that allows me to play all HD format music files and uses a great internal DAC. I have some space restrictions in my condo so this system seems to suit me very well.

I am looking for feedback, as to what direction I should go, or look into at this point.

I recently compared this unit with a Marantz Reference series SA-7S1 SACD player and was shocked how well this player compared even thou it cost 5K less in price.

I decided to make the following upgrades this year:

Rogue Audio M-180 Mono-block Tube Amps

Shunyata Research Hydra 6 or 8 Power Conditioner

Feel free to let me know if you feel I am going in the right direction. I have to give up on LP and albums due to my back condition, but feel this approach will be a satisfying compromise.

Hi,

I wuold like to know how hot the Rogue Audio Stereo 90 amp runs. I have a quite reduced rack space. Does it get so hot that you can't touch it? Would 12cm of space above the amplifier be enough to dissipate heat in your opinion? Thank you!

Best regards,

audioalex
