Description

Modest But Fun. Transport, dac & pre are all upgrade candidates. I enjoy this system immensely even after surfing the many uber-systems posted here. (You know who you are. :^)

    • California Audio Labs Delta
Bought new in 1996. Recently upgraded by Audio Horizons in Sacramento, CA. Sounds excellent!
    • Audio Horizons DAC-2a
Unassuming solid state dac. Neutral with great soundstage. Natural presentation. Probably my next upgrade to Joseph Chow's tube dac. Joseph is owner/designer at Audio Horizons.
    • Rogue Audio 66 Magnum
Musical, good soundstage. Upgrade target in future to 6SN7 based preamp. (De Havilland?)
    • Rogue Audio M-150 Monoblocks
Upgraded from M-120s recently. The M-120 was plagued with problems. It burned tubes for breakfast, incessant, audible hum and ran hotter than Hades. I was afraid to turn them on!!! After the upgrade to 150 status they run cooler, haven't lost a tube, run QUIET and sound wasy nicer. If you can swing it get the upgrade. They do a gorgeous job. As far as I can tell there is no difference between the stock 150 and the upgraded model other than the bottom casework,
    • Dali Mentor 6
Two 6 1/2" woofs & a tweeter "module" containing a !" silk dome and a 2.5" ribbon working together. The highs are smooth with no edge and the woofers hold their own with mid-range and bass frequencies. Upgraded model of Ikon 6. A true high end speaker and worth auditioning. Cabinet is gorgeous. About 40"x7.5"x15" and 55lbs.
    • Audio Horizons Transparency
Locking RCAs, cryo treated. Digital link also.
    • Audio Horizons Transparency-6'
    Very neutral
    • Herbie's Audio Labs Various
Bigfoot, Iso-Cups (Gabon Ebony Ball), Supersonic Stabilizers, Ultrasonic Halo's on small 9 pin tubes-mostly nickel but some Black Peek, grungebuster washers between cones and speaker bottoms, binding post washers on amps and grungebuster washers on Salamander rack.
    • Salamander 5.0
Adjustable. Looking to replace with shorter 3 tier rack.
    • Timber Nation Maple Amp Stands
2" thick flat-grained laminated slabs with brass cones.
    • Antique Sound Labs MG Head DT
Their first headphone amp(that I know of). Has 12AX7 tube with 2 EL-84s.
    • Sennheiser HD-600
Headphones that sound pretty good.I paid $250 on eBay a couple years ago.
    • Bedini Ultra Clarifier
Had for several years. Don't use much-functions good as new.
    • Microscan CD Deck, Speaker & Subw Units
Control vibration and convert it to heat. I have my transport on the deck and one each on the back of my Snell Ds. Now known as Teknasonic. Mine are better IMHO. I got them in 1996 when the company was no more.

Hello

Great system!

I have been thinking about those Dali Mentor 6 to replace my Sonus Faber Electa Amator 2. I bought the EA2 used so the price of the Ea2 and the Mentor should be about the same. Could you tell a little about what you like about the Dalis and what you auditioned before you bought them? Do they need a big space to sound their best and how big is your room? Would you think of replacing the EA2 whith the Mentors as an upgrade or a downgrade? (I actually think they are kind of I the same class and was thinking of changing just for the fun of it)

Best regards

kjartan
