Description

Two years ago I started with seed money of about $300 and have parlayed it through various buys/sells/trades into the current system. Today I could afford to buy some new equipment, but I've decided part of what attracts me to audio is the thrill of the hunt--the $15 thrift-store sleeper that takes your system to the next level.

    • Lenco L75
Replinthed in some 2x4's leftover from a fence project, a temporary measure until my work slows down enough to give me time to give it the treatment it deserves.

Ceramic ball, newly manufactured thrust plate, elastic thread replaced string.
    • Rega RB-300
Rewired with very light gauge, solid copper magnet wire. Terminated with Petra/Music Boy leads (cut to 3' each to reduce capacitance)
    • Shure V15vXmr
    Brush up.
    • Dynaco PAS-3x
Rebuilt power supply, new caps throughout, some circuits redesigned, all tone, filter, balance, etc. removed.
    • Dynaco Stereo 70
Van Alstine bandwidth mod, though customized to my own specs that don't throw out so much of the upper end (his mod calls for limiting at 17kHz!)
    • Samsung HD-841

    • Athena Technologies AS-F2
These must be the Large Advents of their day. Incredible sound stage, nice tonal balance. A little frisky on placement, but one you get it right they'll amaze you.
    • Pioneer RT-707
Current sitting on the sidelines as I troubleshoot a speed warble.
    • Home Depo HD-14
Can't say I'm bowled over by what was originally manufactured as an outdoor extension cord, but they don't seem to add any harm for now. I couldn't stand the orange so I wrapped them in PFTE tape.
    • Music Boy/Petra composite video cables
    Available from Starlink DSS
