good system. I would look into an amp upgrade first though, and then cables. I am sure you could probably find a NAD integrated here for a good price if you look. I have heard NAD And Adcom amps and I like the sound. If you are interested in wha seems to be a really good deal, someone is selling a GFA5200/GTP350 combo here for $350. All important though is your ears. trust them and you will be fine
Nice system! I would replace the AudioSource with a moderately priced integrated amplifer, say Creek 4330R. You would get a much cleaner and smoother sound. There should be something nice on ebay or audiogon cheap. Please do me a favor and don't spend more than $25 on your interconnect. Put the money somewhere else: buy some cds or into the integrated amp. I can assure you, as a physicist, you won't be able to differentiate between monster and kimber in a $1000 system. Your speaker cables are fine.
Very nice setup for the $$! I would start with cables: If you're open minded, might I suggest talking to another 'goNer who markets his products here: Frank at signalcable.com Frank has some really great product both IC's and speaker cables at very reasonable prices. he is very easy to work with, and very quick to ship. Before you commit to anything take a look at his web site. after the cables, you can maybe look at an amp upgrade. I suspect though, that by replacing your IC's and speaker cables you will be stunned at the upgrade in your system's sound.
For cheap cables to match this system, I'd suggest going to http://www.audioquestcables.com/ This is not the official audioquest site, despite the official looking URL.
They offer closeouts on AQ cables I was quite happy with a $22/1m pair of AQ Turquoise X2s that I purchased for HT use (Have since upgraded to Tara Labs Prism 55 though).
I must say..Its a start... I am in high school at the moment witha 2 grand system.. ( you'll get there ) I had to comment on the IC's and speaker cables those have gotta go!. Dont limit yourself or skimp on them either. I have a pair of $200 silver hybrid IC's Trust me, Theyre worth it!. Comparing them to the RS golds HAHAH i have a pair of those also for my tuner ..because the radio isint my source for critical listening for the 12 dollars theyre great but you can do lots better. As far as speaker cables go you can get some Audioquest type 4 10' pair for 80 bucks should be great for you. ou could use a new amp..but its ok for now. But really..splurge on IC's Please :-) Happy Listening
Very impressive. If i were you though i would upgrade the speaker cables before the ICs but in my oppinion i would just keep what you have. It seems pretty much perfect as almost all the components are well matched for each other.
Damn nice setup for 900 dollars, you ask me. I am not the biggest fan of Audio Source, I would be looking the change that out. There is a pair of AudioQuest cables some where on the site for 40 dollars, I would be whipping from the hip for those or some good cable and connects, though I wouldn't go overboard(100 bucks of used stuff) No tuner? Maybe a little there,as college stations tend to play the best music. But in my opinion, I think you did a great job, harder to do when you are buying used.
