Description

This started out mainly for HT with the Forests, Lynks and sub, the plasma and an AVR. After a couple of years, I began to upgrade with a separate amp, pre/pro, video processor and source and decent cables. To my inexperienced ears, the system sounds good, certainly better than anything I owned before which was pretty modest but there is always room for improvement. I'd love to hear any suggestions or comments you may have.

    • Parasound Halo A51
5 x 250 wpc amp. This was my first step in the upgrade process. I was looking for immediate results in all channels of HT and saw only positive reviews of the Parasound Halo. It instantly made the Forests come to life. I'm aware that a 2 ch amp would be better and plan to get the A21 and move to 7.1.
    • Parasound C2
I bought this pre/pro here on A'gon as my first move to separates from an Onkyo TX-SR805. Since decoding of new formats seems to happen relatively frequently, I didn't want to invest in a state of the art pre/pro that would become obsolete quickly but wanted a better pre section than the Onkyo. I see this as an interim piece until I complete my system and see how everything comes together.
    • Totem Acoustics Forest
It was love at first listen when I heard these in the store. They are front L/R for my HT set up and were just okay with the AVR. With more power they came to life and really shine when listening to 2 channel. Nice cherry finish.
    • Totem Acoustics 1 Center Signature
Recently added this to complete HT set up. Blends perfectly with the Forests.
    • Totem Acoustics Lynks
Mounted on wall as rear channels for HT. Cherry finish.
    • Oppo BDP-95
I am using this as my all in one CD, DVD, Blu-ray player. Everything it is advertised to be in terms of quality and versatility. The built in DAC is wonderful.
    • Media Center PC DIY
A colleague built this for me. Running Windows 7. I use this mainly for streaming video via Netflix and my kids love being able to go on Facebook and surf using a 50" monitor. Fan noise and size of the tower case are issues that I have to address.
    • Bryston BDA-1
Everything it was reported to be and more. Instantly brought music from my PC to whole new level.
    • Panasonic TH-50PH9UK
Plasma monitor purchased in 2008. No tuner or speakers to minimize bulk. Wall mounted. I'm still impressed by the picture. I just like plasma better than LCD I suppose.
    • DVDO Edge
Moving from an Onkyo 805 AVR to the C2, I needed to add an HDMI switcher. I opted for this model because it gave me video processing I sacrificed when I made the move. Very good user interface and easy set up.
    • Kimber Kwik-12
I had these made by a local retailer to a custom length. They run under my living room floor (over my basement ceiling) and come back up through holes drilled in the floor so no wires show.
    • Kimber Hero
After reading alot of posts here and elsewhere, I settled on these as a reasonably priced option that would fit well with my system. Balanced interconnects run from my pre/pro to amp and from the DAC to the pre/pro. RCAs run from the Oppo to the pre/pro.
    • Salamander Venice 337
Waiting for delivery of this. The system outgrew the bookcase where I previously had everything set up.
