Description


Acoustically treated dedicated listening room. Dedicated AC line to room. Custom rack has all square tubing filled with sand. Shelves are 1.5" thick butcher block and are isolated from frame with silicone. Asymmetrical setup yields smoothest bass response. Setup in equilateral triangle. Speakers toed-in 30*. Distance between middle of tweeters 84". Distance to ear position in listening seat measured from tweeters 84".

Measurements are confirmed with tape measure and laser measure.
Speakers are sitting vertical, checked with bubble level. At seated position ears are at 37" above floor, center of midrange drivers are at 42" above floor, center of tweeters are at 48" above floor.
Floor is wood glued down over concrete slab.
Noise floor of room is 37 dB in the mornings.

Funny thing @ronkent I've worked on a few BMWs. The ones I owned over the decades. Thanks for the kind comment.

THANKS. i knew a Tom Carr years ago who worked on BMW's but i got the wrong guy.  great system BTW

hi Tom,  i am sure i have the wrong guy,  but you do not live in Greensboro NC by any chance?

Once I got all the the absorption panels installed the position of the plants didn't make any difference in sound quality, and the depth of the soundstage remained the same regardless of the speaker positions. The bass is also very consistent where the speakers are positioned now. 
The room sounds very, very good.
Better than the store that I listened to them at.

Have you tried moving the plants to the corners?

I agree with jumia to pull them out. I use cheap Harbor Freight dollys until I get mine where I want them

Thanks for all the nice comments!
The big wooden panels are doors to a large closet.
The TV is up high, near the ceiling. The cables are run in the wall.
Love the B&Ws.
The soundstage is 3D and deep where the speakers are thanks to the acoustic treatment.
Ceiling hung panels were easy to do.

There is some diffusion. Behind the ficus trees, and top of rear wall.

B&W speakers are quite nice and I have a pair in one of my listening rooms. Appears you have an interest in dentistry, my guess you're a dentist. 

Definitely pull them out so the down firing drivers will better flourish in a 360° perspective.  you have a great room behind you're listening chairs which I wish I had, so plenty of room to pull those speakers out a good yard and more.

How much of a issue was it attaching the panels to your ceiling?

Interesting acoustic treatment. It looks like all absorption, no diffusion. The wood flooring was probably making things too bright. It definitely would not work in my house of stereo. I do like your attention to precise measurements. Enjoy!

Very nice room... well done.  Suggest you experiment with getting the B&Ws out from the wall behind so the front of the speaker is at least 48 inches from that wall.  Should give your sound image a Hugh increase in depth.
